Mascot challenge!

Last week I got to go watch something super fun! I watched a silly obstacle course race featuring our beloved Discovery Jones.
It was the third annual Service Canada Centre for Youth Mascot Challenge!
We met up with everyone at Service Canada:
Then walked to the venue:
Here is a picture of Discovery Jones, also known around the Science Centre as DJ, with his pal Munchie from the Royal Saskatchewan Museum. DJ liked this picture a lot -- it's now his Facebook profile photo!
Everyone then lined up waiting for the competition to begin:
We had a good-sized crowd out watching:
Here's DJ on the first leg -- he had to grab a watering can and water the flower:
Then move and re-stack the boxes in a pyramid:
Then sweep the pucks from one side of the street into the square. DJ had fun with this, even though he was really bad at it. Those pucks sure roll!
And the last thing to do was unfold a frozen tshirt and give it to a member of the crowd:
After the competition was over (WorkSafe Bob won!), the mascots had a chance to play with the crowd. Here's DJ and his pal K9 from the Regina Pats going out to say hello:
DJ is popular. Whenever I go anywhere with him, people like to hug him, give high fives, and get their picture taken with him:
Group photo! The back row from left to right is: Stella the Safety Skunk (from WorkSafe Saskatchewan), Munchie (from the Royal Saskatchewan Museum), WorkSafe Bob (from WorkSafe Saskatchewan), Rainbow Bear (from Rainbow Cinemas), Gus the Gasasaurus (from SaskEnergy), Discovery Jones (of course! From the Saskatchewan Science Centre), Cooper (from The Co-op), and Ray the Sunshine (from Service Canada). The front row, from left to right, is K9 (from the Regina Pats Hockey Club), Rampage (from the University of Regina Rams), and the great folks from Service Canada that put together the event!
And here is DJ with his results:
He was 6th out of 9, which was pretty good considering he is more of an academic than an athlete. He was telling me after, though, that he'd like to get a little more active. Maybe we'll see him on the climbing wall soon?
If you'd like to see a few more photos from the event, as always you can check out the full set on Flickr. And if you'd like DJ to come out to your community event, call me! 791-7917. I can put you in touch with Mr Discovery Jones himself!
Stay curious,
Collette
