Now that's a review

Last night at a friend's birthday gathering I met one of her colleagues. As we sat around chatting about love, life, and art, this colleague mentioned she'd seen Van Gogh: Brush with Genius at the Kramer IMAX Theatre. In a room containing several artists, the reactions were extremely positive! "Oh I have to see that!" was said more than once.
I guess my friends don't listen to me when I talk about work. I'm sure I've mentioned it!
At any rate, my favourite part was that Val then told us that it has inspired her husband to begin painting again. Immediately after the film he bought new canvases and oils and has been painting away happily. Definitely not a reaction I'd expected to the film, but so very nice to hear about! She also had the same reaction I did to the film: absolutely captivated by the close ups of Vincent van Gogh's textures and colours. She excitedly talked about seeing it on such a giant screen, and what a treat that was!
Also, she said all of this before she knew what I do for a living. She is now one of my new favourite people, ha!
So, another part of the film that I also really enjoyed was the juxtaposition between the actual places that inspired him, such as the church Auvers-sur-Oise, and his interpretation of those places.
For example, Van Gogh's inspiration:

And Van Gogh's interpretation:

We currently have this film running until May 1, but if nobody else needs the print after we're done, we might be able to keep it longer. Having said that, there are no guarantees. So, if you are at all interested in Vincent Van Gogh, art, or just beautiful scenes in Holland and France, don't wait too long!
Stay curious,
Collette
