We aim to spark curiosity and open doors to scientific discovery for kids of all ages through highly interactive and inspiring experiences. To achieve this, we offer hands-on workshops that enrich and extend the curriculum taught in Saskatchewan schools. Each workshop is thoughtfully designed to support classroom learning, with clear ties to the curriculum. Our science educators are skilled at making science engaging and accessible, helping bring concepts to life for your students. Workshops are available at the Science Centre, at your school, or virtually.

Discover the diversity of animal groups and compare characteristics and behaviours between animals from different habitats. Get the chance to meet a real animal for a fun and visual learning experience.

Students will gain an understanding of astronomy by learning about the structure of our solar system and the celestial bodies in it! Star Lab offers an inflatable planetarium experience for students participating.

We won’t “force” you to have fun, but we bet you will in this hands-on, activity-based workshop! Budding physicists will investigate different materials, objects, and the forces that act on them. Both independently and in small groups, students will learn the basics of forces (gravity, friction, magnetism, and motion) and test “What happens if...?” in our interactive exploration lab.

This workshop is about adaptations in animals and how astonishing they can be. Students will gain an understanding of how animals (including themselves) adapt to their environment, each other, and climate change.

We’ll shed some light on the electromagnetic spectrum through demonstrations of total internal refraction, fiber optics, prisms, UV, and fluorescence! Students will use mirrors and lasers to problem-solve their way through a team challenge.

Learn about the tiny creatures that make up the amazing diversity of life in a wetland. Students will take samples of water collected from Wascana Marsh and use a stereoscope to investigate both the living and non-living properties they find, the role they play in the ecosystem, and how to support them amidst climate change.
Only available during May–June and when weather allows.

Design, build, and test a dwelling that can withstand dramatic and extreme climates. Learn the use and importance of different materials and sustainable designs, how to be resourceful when supplies are limited, and how nature itself provides inspiration for sustainable structures. This hands-on workshop has students team up to discover their own solutions to building challenges, with a bonus for thinking green.

Students will join the Grasslands Bureau of Investigation and use their deductive reasoning skills to solve a crime in grassland ecosystems using clues left behind by animals, such as tracks and scat. Students will learn about the requirements for life, habitats, and ecological interactions in Saskatchewan.

Get a new perspective on the living body and its intricate design. These hands-on, guided dissections allow students to get a closer look at how body systems and their organs work. Choose from fetal pig, heart, or eye.
NOTE: the Fetal Pig is designed for Grades 8+.

Go! Science Outreach School Workshops & Stage Shows
Our Go! Science Outreach team brings hands-on, curriculum-linked science experiences directly to schools. Workshops are designed to engage students of all ages, making scientific concepts interactive, accessible, and fun.
Our program lasts an entire day, includes 4 workshops and reaches up to 200 students! The workshops are geared towards specific age groups and are tied to the Saskatchewan Curriculum. Stage shows are designed to bring many students together to enjoy science demonstrations.

Using robotic mice, students will learn the basics of coding. Using a combination of directional buttons and other commands, students will give their robots instructions and attempt to guide them through a 2D maze, as well as create programs to dance and race!

This workshop uses simple blocks to build robots, cars, trains, and more! Students will learn how to build circuits with our Cubelet robotic building blocks and explore how we control technology every day using simple coding techniques, including basic inputs and outputs. This dynamic workshop gives students the opportunity to problem-solve as a team and complete a series of challenges.

Who were Sir Isaac Newton and Rube Goldberg, and why are they important? Students will work to create their own simple machines to solve a simulated real-life situation. Using a variety of materials, inquiry-based learning, and problem-solving, students will create a machine that can harness the power of forces and motion!

This hair-raising workshop takes you from electrostatic charges and beyond! Students will learn about the history of electricity, the difference between static and current electricity, series and parallel circuits, and more. A Van de Graaff generator will be used to explore hands-on static electricity.

Why does your hair stand up after rubbing a balloon on it? Why do we sometimes get shocked when we touch things? The Discovery Fund
The Saskatchewan Science Centre’s Discovery Fund provides financial assistance to priority and deserving students and classrooms throughout the province.
The Discovery Fund may be a fit for your organization if you are:
A school visiting the SSC for a daytime visit. Applications can be made for General Admission, IMAX documentary films, and Workshops
A school who wants to book a Go! Science Outreach Visit. The Discovery Fund is only for school programming, not for Summer Outreach or event-specific programming.
