February Session: Nuclear 101
Wednesday, February 18 | 9:30 am–12:00 pm
Join us for an engaging Science Connections session featuring Dr. Arthur Situm, Assistant Professor of Energy Systems Engineering at the University of Regina.
This session offers a clear, approachable introduction to nuclear science and energy, building on a presentation originally delivered during Nuclear Science Week. Designed for adults, seniors, and lifelong learners, Nuclear 101 breaks down how nuclear technology works, what small modular reactors are, and why they’re part of conversations about Saskatchewan’s energy future.
In this expert-informed presentation, participants will explore:
The basics of nuclear science and how nuclear energy is produced
What small modular reactors (SMRs) are and how they differ from traditional reactors
How nuclear innovation could support a reliable, low-carbon energy system in Saskatchewan
Common questions and misconceptions about nuclear energy
Participants will enjoy a 45-minute presentation, followed by time for questions, discussion, and reflection in a relaxed, welcoming environment. As with all Science Connections sessions, the morning also includes time to explore the Science Centre’s exhibit floor, an IMAX Documentary film, and complimentary Caliber Coffee.
This session is designed to be informative, engaging, and confidence-building – perfect for curious minds interested in science, energy, and the future of innovation.
Group rates are available for Science Connections sessions. To book a group or inquire about pricing, please contact Peg at bookings@sasksciencecentre.com or call 306-791-7943.
