About Science Literacy Week

Presented by the Canadian Association of Science Centres (CASC), Science Literacy Week is a national celebration of curiosity, discovery, and the science all around us. From coast to coast to coast, CASC members, educators, and a growing ecosystem of STEM learning leaders are coming together to spark questions, try new ideas, and explore science in everyday life.

Curiosity Unleashed

This year’s theme, Curiosity Unleashed, invites everyone to explore, play, and notice the world in new ways. In an era shaped by rapid discovery and innovation, STEM engagement organizations and science communicators play a critical role in cultivating a culture of curiosity, resilience, and engagement across Canada. Science Literacy Week invites everyone and anyone in the broader science engagement ecosystem to come together to explore how we foster inclusive, vibrant, and forward-looking spaces for science learning and public dialogue. We encourage everyone to join us this October with open minds, open hearts, and come curious.

Saturday, October 10 & Sunday, October 11

As part of Science Literacy Week, visitors are invited to tackle the Black Box Challenge, an interactive investigation where seeing isn't believing.

Examine sealed mystery boxes using observation, sound, movement, and critical thinking to determine what may be hidden inside. Along the way, discover how scientists use evidence to study things they cannot directly observe, from Earth's interior to distant planets and black holes.

Recommended for all ages. Included with General Admission.
