The Saskatchewan Science Centre is shaping a tomorrow brimming with curiosity, adventure, and innovation. Come along as we embark on this transformative journey. Together, we wield the Power to Inspire.

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

Our story began in 1978 with a small group of concerned individuals, who believed that there was a critical need to increase public awareness and understanding of science and technology. They proposed a participatory museum that “is rich in experience and to this end can stimulate and augment learning of the traditional classroom by demonstrating the phenomenology implicit in the textbooks.”

The creation of a participatory Saskatchewan Science Centre was first proposed as a project by the Junior Service League of Regina. The group approach Saskatchewan Power Corporation (SaskPower) proposing that a science centre be incorporated into the old city powerhouse building. The use of the powerhouse for the proposed science centre was approved by the SaskPower board of directors and the provincial cabinet.

Fundraising and raising awareness was a high priority. In 1981 an eight-minute video, narrated by Dr. David Suzuki of “The Nature of Things,” was produced. Check it out:

Where It Began

When the idea of the Saskatchewan Science Centre was first proposed by the Junior Service League, a simple and clear statement was issued on why having a Science Centre in Regina was so important.

A visit to the Saskatchewan Science Centre has inspired generations of scientists, engineers, and geeks to take the spark of curiosity ignited by the experience and turning it into a lifelong passion for all things science. These scientists, engineers, and innovators create new knowledge through research, discovery, and innovation, building a future for our province, the country, and the world.

GET INVOLVED

Our community, sponsors, members, and partners create the DNA that is the Saskatchewan Science Centre. Without the immense support we have received over the past 30+ years, we would not be able to deliver the amazing experiences to Saskatchewan youth that we are today.

The future of the SSC is here now and can be seen through major changes with our SSC Revitalization Project and seed funding through the Government of Canada and the Government of Saskatchewan through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP). This funding is merely a start and opportunities for organizations and individuals to get involved are ampler than ever.

Curious as to how you can get involved?

  • Donate online to support these efforts and the future of the SSC

  • Make a date with your friends/family to visit the SSC/Kramer Imax Theatre and witness these amazing changes

  • Attend one of our fundraising events, including the annual Fantasy Food Gala

  • Imagine your organization or family’s name alongside an SSC asset or exhibit
